George Wilkie Holt, Sr.

George Wilkie Holt Sr., 86, of Asheville, died Tuesday, August 9, 2016. A native of Sanford, NC, he was a son of Frank and Essie Thomas Holt. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Cathryn Holt, and by his daughter, Pamela Joan Holt. Mr. Holt was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Southeastern Electronics for 40 years, and after retirement, drove for Skyland Automotive for 25 years. He was passionate about doing yard work for his wife Cathryn, and he also attended Beverly Hills Baptist Church. Mr. Holt is survived by his daughters, Kathie Wynne Clarke (Harvey) of Soddy Daisy, TN, and Teresa Cowan (Mike) of Asheville; son, George Wilkie Holt, Jr. (Kelly) of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Luke Clarke (Jacquelyn), Clifton Holt, Nancy Kathryn Clarke, Joshua Hembree, Trey Holt, and Allison Holt; and 2 great-grandsons, Brandon and Jackson Clarke. Funeral services for Mr. Holt will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Tunnel Road Chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Anderson officiating. A private interment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. Receiving of friends will begin at 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to one's favorite charity.
