GEORGIA BURNETTE BROWN ASHEVILLE – Georgia Burnette Brown, 90, of Mt. Carmel Rd., died on Friday, December 24, 2010, at her niece’s home in Candler. A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late C.B. and Georgia Ramsey Brown. She was also preceded in death by sisters Vergie Duckett, Pearl Brown, Della Peek, Essie Brown, Edna Rogers, and brothers Hamp Brown, Faraday Brown, Conley Brown, Sherrill Brown, Wayne Brown, Ray Brown, and Ralph Brown. Ms. Brown was an English teacher, primarily at Erwin High School, with the Buncombe County School System for 42 years. She received her master’s degree in English from Western Carolina University. She was a member of Leicester United Methodist Church. Ms. Brown is survived by her niece and caregiver, Judith Farmer, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend special appreciation to CarePartners Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eliada Home, PO Box 16708, Asheville, NC 28816.

  1. Our hearts are saddened with the passing of Miss Brown. She was our teacher at Emma High School where she not only taught us English but also to be upstanding citizens. She gave us rules to live by and told us that dreams do come true and to always dream big. Thank you Miss Brown for all the advice you gave us during our years at Emma. You were the best. Hubert Smith(1952) and Jean Norton Smith (1954). Rest in Peace Sweet Lady, you will always be remembered.

    I am sorry for your loss. Ms. Brown was my homeroom & English teacher my freshman year. She was the best teacher I had & was a huge influence in my life. She touched many lives during her tenure at Erwin High.
