Landrum, SC - Gerald Dean “Butch” Fox, 79, of Landrum, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Charles and Stella Lewis Fox. A 1957 graduate of AC Reynolds High School, Gerald was later drafted by the United States Army where he served in France and Germany. After his military service, he went on to work for Carolina Bridge Company, Inc. where he retired with over 30 years of employment. His accomplishments in bridge building include many bridges on Scenic Hwy. 11 as well as the Green River Bridge on Interstate 26. He served on the Foothills Fire Commission for several years covering parts of the Tryon, NC and Landrum areas. He was also an avid camper who loved to fish and hunt. Gerald was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gowensville, where he was also a member of the Pete Hartman Sunday School Class. He loved the Lord, his family, and most of all, his grandchildren and Jack Russell dog, Sammy. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gloria Dotson Fox; one daughter, Lynne Fox Givins (Lee), of Inman, SC; one son, David Christopher Fox of Inman, SC; one sister, Nell Rita Hunt of Hendersonville as well as two grandchildren, Lauren Givins Ferrell (Wes) of Charleston, SC and Lydia Givins also of Charleston, SC. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, November 30, 2018 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM prior to the service. For those who desire, contributions may be made in Gerald’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

  1. Gloria, sweet cousin, and family. Bless you all; we give thanks that you had a Dad, husband, papaw and friend who loved you without reservation and enjoyed life to the fullest. Always a smile on his face and the countenance to match. He will be missed by many.

  3. My deepest sympathy to the Fox family. I have several cousins who graduated about the same time Mr. Fox graduated from Reynolds.   4. Mrs. Fox, so sorry for your loss. You and the family have been in ny prayers since I saw on Facebook that your husband had passed. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you, but I have found memories of the various times I visited your home or had sleepovers with Lynne, and remember warmth, fun-loving and laughter of Mr. Fox.. May you feel God’s tangible presence surrounding your during these difficult days, His strong, loving arms wrapped around you.

  6. So sorry to hear about Butch. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Sorry we couldn’t make but had some previous appointments. Will be thinking of you all in the days ahead. Butch will be spending Christmas with the King!
