Gerald McElreath, 71, of Mt. Carmel Rd., Asheville, died on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. McElreath was a son of the late Frank, Sr., and Artie Worley McElreath. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Frank McElreath, Jr. Mr. McElreath was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Judith Miller McElreath; son, Steve McElreath and wife Dawn, of Candler; step-son, Robert Bryan Jones; brother, John McElreath and wife Barbara, of Candler; sister-in-law, Ruth McElreath, of Candler; granddaughters, Hayley, and Hannah McElreath; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. Ricky Wolfe and Bobby Smith officiating. His family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Jim Wayne Miller Scholarship Fund, Western Kentucky University, 1906 College Heights Blvd., Bowling Green, KY, 42101.

  2. We were so sad to hear of Geralds passing. It will be hard to visit Carolina and not have Gerald walk in with his shy face, but HUGE heart! We will miss the visits to Harrah’s and Wendover. Gerald you meant a lot to our family and we will miss you more than words can express. We love you so much, and we are thinking of Steve,Dawn,the girls, and Judy.     We will always cherish the good memories of Gerald at the Trading Post. What a wonderful time we had on our way up to North Creek. We would stop and visit with Gerald and he always provided us with a Coke and great conversation. Circumstances do not allow us to be with you.
