Gerry Jackson Sampson, 58, of 1667 Bear Creek Road, Leicester, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Sampson was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late William Ross Jackson who died in April, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a son, Brian A. Sampson, in December, 1996. She was a 1961 graduate of Leicester High School and was also a graduate of Asheville-Biltmore Junior College. She worked at Clyde A. Erwin High School and was a member of Newfound Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Larry A. Sampson; one son, Daryl Sampson and his wife Cynthia of Charlotte; her mother, Helen Bridges Jackson of Leicester; and a brother, David Ross Jackson and his wife Pat of Leicester.

Funeral services will be 3:30 pm Monday at Newfound Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Ball and Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the Deacon Board of Newfound Baptist Church.

Her family will receive friends 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

  1. When I worked on Oncology at MSJ hospital Ms. Sampson was a patient. She was so sick at that time. I was so excited to see her out to eat at the fish house one Sunday. She looked so beautiful. She was a lovely person inside and out and I know she will be missed. My condolences to the family.

  7. Gerry was a tremendous person. I remember how she always brightened up everything around her when I knew her as a small child. I remember waiting on the school bus with her on her first day of school. She was always so upbeat, and so happy, regardless of the circumstances. I never had the privilege to know Gerry’s husband and sons, but I do think of her mother so often.
    All of you are in my thoughts. When Daddy died, someone said to me to not mourn that he is gone, but to rejoice that he was.
