Ginger Martha Allen, 76, passed away on August 6, 2024, in Canton, North Carolina. Born on February 28, 1948, in Penn Yan, New York, she was a beloved educator and a cherished member of her community.

Ginger’s early education was at Penn Yan Elementary School, followed by her graduation from Penn Yan Academy in 1966. She pursued higher education at the State University of New York, earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1971, and later a Master’s degree in Education from Nazareth College of Rochester in 1981. Professionally, Ginger dedicated herself to education, passionately teaching and shaping young minds. Additionally, she enjoyed waitressing, which allowed her to meet and interact with
various people.

A devout attendee of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Candler, North Carolina, Ginger cherished the music and sermons, especially appreciating the preaching of her brother, Ty Allen, the church pastor.

Ginger was renowned for her kindness and her love of writing detailed letters, a hobby that kept her connected with friends and family across the globe. She also had a profound love for cats, sharing her home with many over the years, including her recent companion, Sweetie.

She is survived by her brother, Tyrone Allen and his wife Ann; sister, Cynthia Allen; nephew, Christopher Saya; and nieces, Lisha Holbert, Angela Saya, and Katina Allen. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Ann Katina Allen and Lewis Allen, and her sister, Lana McClurg.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. The family has entrusted Groce Funeral Home in Asheville, North Carolina, with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ginger’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Prevention and Research Foundation, honoring her compassionate spirit.
