Gladys Clark Cox, 94, of 215 Bent Creek Road, Asheville, died Friday, October 25, 2002, at her residence. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Herman Coyle and Blanche Miller Clark. The was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Frank Cox, who died in 1984 and a brother, Ralph Clark. She traveled and lived in many locations with her husband, a former Marine, until his retirement and return to Asheville in 1956. She was a member of Abernethy United Methodist Church and United Commercial Travelers. Mrs. Cox is survived by two daughters, Sada Ann Buck and her husband William of Pawleys Island, SC and Frankie Lee Strickland and her husband James of Kerrville, TX; a son, Clark F. Cox and his wife Katherine of Asheville and a brother, Fred Clark of Asheville; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Henry R. “Rusty” Inman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Monday prior to the service and would like to express their appreciation to Lois Ingle, Marlene Silver and Effie Blankenship and her family for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Cox. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
