Gladys Davis Howell, 92, of Asheville, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Pisgah Manor Health Care.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar R. and Maude Mann Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray L. Howell, Sr.; two sisters, Mabry Davis and Lucy Green; four brothers, Troy, Fred, Norman and Ray Davis. She was a member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Coffey and husband Ralph of Marion, Mary Davis and husband Scott of Asheville; a son, Ray L. Howell, Jr. of Asheville; a sister, Myrtle Watts of Candler; grandchildren, Melissa Young and husband Donald of Jamestown, NC, Jason Davis of Asheville; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Atticus Young of Jamestown.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Chester West officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
You were my sunshine when it rained, my light in the dark. You made the best cupcakes and really knew how to make me feel special. You were the best grandmother a girl could have. I will never forget everything you taught me and did for me. I will always miss you.

Gladys was truly a special patient to Reta & I as we worked with her through Home Health Carepartners.
