Gladys Hyde Jenkins

Gladys Hyde Jenkins, 85, of 2533 Hendersonville Road, Arden, died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at a local hospital. A native of Bryson City, she was a daughter of the late Henry Grady and Amanda Dorsey Hyde. She was manager of Belk Beauty Salon when Belk was located on Patton Avenue, downtown and also managed the senior citizen site at the West Asheville Community Center in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. She was formerly an associate conductress of the Eastern Star and a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her husband, Walter G. Jenkins; her step-mother, Bessie F. Hyde of Asheville; a brother, Clarence G. Hyde and his wife Lois of Oak Ridge, TN; two sisters, Eleanor Ownbey and her husband Nathan of Asheville and Evelyn House and her husband Cliff of Warner Robins, GA and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Ernest W. Ridenhour officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
