Gladys Kimbirl Sumner of Asheville died Monday, August 30, 2004, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Sumner was born in Mecklenburg County and was a daughter of the late James Hawkins Kimbirl and Annie Carrie Loftin Kimbirl. She was married to Clarence James Sumner, Sr. who died in 1994.
She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, LaDonna Bowers of Seattle, WA; two sons C.J. Sumner, Jr. and his wife Fonda of Candler and Michael J. Sumner and his wife Audrie of Asheville; three grandchildren Rene Simpson and her husband Gary, Lamar Sumner and his wife Cheryl and Michelle Sprinkle and her husband Albert, and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Memorial Park with the Rev. Skipper Watwood officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the home of her son, 21 English Drive, Candler.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
