Glenda Towery Penley, 74, of Candler, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024, at her home.

A native of Dallas, NC, Glenda was a daughter of the late A.V. and Minnie Lee Fortenberry Towery.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Shifflett (Forrest); son, Steven Rice (Katrina); nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and sisters, Wanda Towery and Pinkie Witherspoon.

Funeral services are now set for Monday, October 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 2312 Smokey Park Hwy, Candler, NC 28715, with Pastor Shekinah Schwartz officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.

Steven and Michelle, I’m praying for you and your families, as this is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry that I didn’t get to the funeral, I only found out yesterday and was devastated to know she is gone.
