Glenn Edward Pruitt, 85, of Arden, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center. A native of Fairmont, SC, he was a son of the late Dewey B. and Mildred Rogers Pruitt and was also preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Pruitt. Glenn proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, 2nd Infantry Division. He was in active combat during the Korean War and earned a Korean Service Medal, Sharpshooter Medal and two Bronze Stars. He went on to work at Sayles-Biltmore Bleachery and retired from there after 27 years of service. Glenn was a member of Arden First Baptist Church and lived a Christian life, always trying to set an example of Jesus' love to everyone. He was a loving husband, father and "Poppy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Fincher Pruitt; two daughters, Becky Pruitt Robinson and her husband, Mack and Pam Pruitt Taylor and her husband, Rocky; one son, Eddie Pruitt and his wife, Kristine; one granddaughter, Shannon Robinson Mead; three grandsons, Austin E. Pruitt, Grayson C. Pruitt and Derek R. Taylor; four great-grandsons, Zachary Dollinger, Nicholas Dollinger, Nathan Dollinger and Kaden Taylor and two sisters, Emma Lee Seay and Linda Smith. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2015 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Reverends Gayle Brown and James King officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 on Saturday at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make memorial donations in Glenn's name to CarePartners Hospice (John F. Keever Jr Solace Center) PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
