Gordon James King, 85, of Leicester, died Monday, August 31, 2015, at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late Coy and Netter Ledbetter King. He was also preceded in death by sisters Vever Gregg, Gladys Nash, and Vernie Owens, and by brothers Curtis, Millard, Bill, and Lewis King. Mr. King retired from the North Carolina DOT in 1995, and was also a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Belvie Brown King; daughter, Jean King; sons, Neal King and wife Donna, and Max King and wife Linda; grandchildren, Cindy Meadows (Shane), Lisa Heatherly (Jeremy), James Freeman, Mike Freeman (Christy), Nicole Wright (Alan), Candace Moore (Michael), Reagan, Abbie, Karlee, Faith, and Destiny; 9 great-grandchildren; and sisters Venie Roberts and Viola Tweed. Funeral services for Mr. King will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ervin Nash and the Rev. Ed Jennings officiating. Interment will follow at Jones Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jones Valley Cemetery Fund, c/o Sandra King, 141 Sandy Mush Rd., Leicester, NC 28748, or to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  5. What a sweet man heaven has gained! Every time I went to visit Lisa. It seemed like I would only show up if Gordon was busting wood & had the driveway block. He would just look at me & grin everytime. I always liked going & sittin with him & Belvie & just talking about old times. Gordon will truly be miss by all that knew him! So sorry about Gordon passing! Love & prayers!
