Grady M. Pinkerton, 89, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at his daughter Kitty’s, home in Fletcher. Mr. Pinkerton was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Luther E. and Cora Evelyn Owenby Pinkerton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Orphia Louise Swainey Pinkerton who died February 15, 1995, and by a son, Charles Frederick Pinkerton who died November 26, 2003. Mr. Pinkerton was a member of Arden First Baptist Church and was retired from the building industry as an estimator and consultant. He is survived by two daughters, Louise P. Stroupe of Weaverville and Mary P. “Kitty” Bryson of Fletcher; four sons, Luther E. “Gene” Pinkerton of Hickory, James M. Pinkerton of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; Thomas G. “Tom” Pinkerton of Charlotte and Robert A. “Bob” Pinkerton of Hertford; a very special daughter-in-law, Jean Jones Pinkerton (widow of Charles Frederick Pinkerton) of Leicester; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. G. Scott Lynch at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The Rev. Ken Sausedo, pastor of Grassy Branch Baptist Church will provide the music. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law and honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Miles Elmore and Dr. William T. Maddox. His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Arden First Baptist Church, 3839 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704.
