Hannah Eugenie Patenotte

hannah patenotte

August 3, 1951 ~ December 9, 2024

Born in: Washington, DC
Resided in: Asheville, NC

In loving memory of Hannah Eugenie Patenotte, who passed away December 9, 2024 at the age of 73, at home in Asheville, North Carolina, after continued lengthy illnesses.

Hannah was born in Washington, DC. She spent her early years in Falls Church, Virginia, later moving to Miami Beach, Surfside and Bay Harbor, FL when her parents decided to relocate. For several decades she worked for L. Luria and Sons of south Florida and was respected by all for her work ethic. She moved to Weston, FL with the love of her life, Cari Zalkin. Hannah and Cari developed their own specialized auditing firm and ultimately moved together to the mountains of Asheville, NC.

Hannah faced many life challenges, starting with final stage cancer when she was 19 and wasn’t supposed to live to be 20. In 2014, she faced open heart surgery, because she might only have a year to live. She survived the surgery and unforgiving complications, experiencing ‘seeing the light’ when she had coded. She was a warrior, giving strength to so many others. When a friend declared she was a cat, we were all thankful, because with all of her continued medical issues, we weren’t sure how many lives she had already used.

Hannah was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mary Virginia (Pierce) and Desiree Armand Patenotte. She is survived by her beloved wife (a partnership of 47 years, married for 9), a devoted and loving caregiver, Cari Zalkin; brother, Claude Armand Patenotte; cousins, Walter and Pam McWhirt, and Mary and Michael Murphy, as well as their families; her in-laws, Michael and Martha Zalkin; nephew, Gabriel Zalkin; niece, Andrea (Zalkin) and husband Sean Engvold; great-nephew, Hudson Massey; and our Asheville family, Mary and Sandy, Susan and Ann, Nina and Barbara, Robin and Karen, and Lisa and Linda.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Groce Funeral Home, Asheville NC and Clore-English Funeral Home, Culpeper, VA.

Burial will be at the family plot in the Masonic Cemetery, Culpeper, VA.

  1. Cari, I was deeply saddened to see the notice of Hannah’s passing. I know it has been such a struggle for her, and you as her faithful caregiver to watch the decline of the love of your life. There is a special place in my heart for the two of you. Continuing prayers for you as you go through this time.

  2. We will miss you, sweet Hannah. Your smile, laugh, all of your restaurant searches (☺️) and your positive attitude.
Most of all we will miss your love. You will always be in our hearts.

  3. Cari, it has been such a delight to be in contact with you both over these years. Hannah has certainly been a tower of strength and laughter. I hope these traits will help you over these sorrowful times and bring you continued memories of the wondrous times you two have shared. Much aloha, Judy and the other Hawaii cousins.

  4. Sad to read of Hannah’s passing. She has struggled valiantly for so long. May she rest in peace.
