Mr. Coston later became the director of the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
With the encouragement and support of future U.S. president, George H. W. Bush, Mr. Coston was appointed in 1972 as administrator of the Lubbock County (Texas) Hospital District. Anyone who knew Mr. Coston witnessed his deep devotion to his family, his community, and the Fruitland United Methodist Church, which was founded by his grandparents. He was a tireless worker who always had time to help neighbors and friends. But, more than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and other family members.

I was Mr. Coston’s secretary at Levering Hospital from 1978-1981. I was saddened to see his obituary in the Hannibal Courier-Post. I have to say I looked at his picture for a long time, smiling and remembering what a wonderful person he was. I am honored that we crossed paths. The world has lost a true gentleman. My sympathy to you all.
Barbie & I rented a home with Harold in the mid 90’s. Harold was one of the genuine nicest individuals we have ever met..We will miss him greatly.
Miriam and I are saddened to here of Harold’s passing. He was truly an wonderful
individual and friend. We will miss him. Miriam’s mother was Ola Coston. We are sorry we could not attend the services, but we have both been sick with pneumonia and related problems. Our thoughts and prayers are with family.
I am Larry McCluskie of Hannibal, Mo. I came to work for Mr. Coston upon graduation for Anesthesia School in 1962, and served Levering Hospital for 25 years. I remember the family, and even administered anesthesia to one of the girls when they had a fractured arm!!:):) I enjoyed the family and his dedication to them. All three of our daughters were born at Levering Hospital. As for the photo of Harold, he never changed :):):) I am truely sorry for your loss. I had a great appreciation for him, as well as Vivian and the girls. Sincerely, Larry.
As a young boy growing up I remember MR. Coston showing some educational slides for our little school in Renselear near Hannibal mo. Toward the end he showed some slides of his three daughters opening their presents on a Christmas morning. Looking back he was so proud of his family and wanted everyone to see. I had no idea that MR. Coston had contributed so much in his life. I am sure his family is proud and we all should be grateful for his contributions. My sympathy and prayers goes out to all of the Coston family. Sincerely, Wayne Carpenter
