Harold Winston Bowman, 72, of 9 Bowman Drive, Asheville, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at his home.
Harold was born in Alexander County and was a son of Retha Simmons Bowman of Asheville and the late Ransom Bowman. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Bowman who died in 1975.
Harold was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from WNC Tile. However, Harold will be remembered most by his unconditional love for his family. Harold’s hobbies were family, playing with the grandchildren, and chatting with the guys at McDonalds.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Annie Mae Russ Bowman; three daughters, Brenda Sue Plemmons and her husband Ted of Leicester, Nancy June Bowman of Asheville, and Mitzi Wade and her husband Larry of Leicester; eight grandchildren, Scott Plemmons, Tim Plemmons, Kellie Plemmons, Mark Plemmons, Jennifer Campbell, Harold Keith Sellers, Justin Wade and Courtney Wade; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Jackson Plemmons; two sisters, Nancy Randall of Asheville and Janet Cartwright of Leicester, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ralph Sexton, Jr., C.J. Duvall and Bennie Wade officiating. Burial will be at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Van Duncan, Joe Lamir, J.T. Barber, Mark Gowing, Joe Woody and Ron Gowing.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
My prayers are with the entire family. Harold was kind and good to everyone he met. I only knew him for a few precious moments of his life but I am grateful for all of them.
Der Annie Mae and family , I will always remember Harold as a very special person…….I have known Harold for many many years and always thought of him as such a gentle ,quite person that loved his family………all of you have been in our prayers during Harolds illness and will continue to do so for many days to come………….
I just wanted to tell you all how much i love you and if you need anything all you have to do is call.I am thankful that i got to say goodbye to my uncle while he knew who i was.You know a lot of times we don;t get that chance to say i love you.
