Harry Clinton Rowney Jr., former Senior Vice President of the United States Trust Company of New York died peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Mr. Rowney was born in New York, NY on December 25, 1928 and was the son of the late Harry C. and Carolyn C. Rowney. Following his graduation from Trinity College, Hartford, CT and education at Columbia University, NY, Mr. Rowney began his long Wall St. career, working for such Wall St. giants as J.P. Morgan, the famed investor Sir John Templeton, Drexel Burnham Lambert and the United States Trust Company of New York. Upon his retirement, Mr. Rowney settled in Asheville, NC, which he called home for the past twenty-three years. In Asheville, Mr. Rowney immersed himself in the arts, serving on the board of directors for the Asheville Art Museum as well as acting as arts patron. A lifetime music lover, Mr. Rowney dedicated his retirement years to the piano, which became his muse and greatest source of pleasure. Of all of Mr. Rowney’s life’s accomplishments, his founding of the Asheville Pianoforte Series was the one he was most proud of.

He is survived by his children Peter and Elizabeth and their partners and three granddaughters.

A visitation is planned for Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road, and the graveside service will be at Riverside Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.

  2. I first knew Harry in New York City where we both worked on Wall Street. He was a very fine person and I valued his friendship. Throughout the years, we kept in touch. I’ll miss him.
