Eugene "Gene" Lanning, 80, of Leicester, passed away November 20, 2018, at his home.
A native of Buncombe Co., Gene was a son of the late Harry Woodrow Lanning and Helen Chockley Lanning. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Lanning, step-daughter, Cheryl Melton, and brother, Joe Lanning.
Surviving are his daughter, Yvette Haney (Jeff); sons, Mike and Scott Lanning; special friend, Jessie Logan; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newfound Baptist Church, PO Box 6, Leicester, NC 28748.

Gene was so good to me. He never forgot my birthday. It was like clock work that I would get a special card from him. He called me his ‘Gal’ (makes me smile to think about that) I know he is in a better place!
