Funeral services for Mr. Brooks will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 21, 1998, in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with entombment to follow at Forest Lawn  Mausoleum.

Mr. Brooks was  born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late C.P. Brooks and the late Minnie Rush Brooks, and was married to Faye Ruth Henderson Brooks, who died in  1996.

He was a Navy medical corpsman with the Second Marine Division during WW II and was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic service for saving lives on Okinawa in June, 1945.

He was a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Ironworkers, Local #779, of Norfolk, VA, and worked as a contract rigger for NASA Langley Research Center  and was involved with the NASA space program.

He was also active as a coach both in Little League Baseball and Junior/Senior Bowling Leagues.  He was a   former 'Coach of the Year' and 'Man of the Year' and in 1986 he was inducted into the Hampton Roads Bowling Assn. Hall of Fame.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Earl Simon;  a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Brooks;  a sister, Marguerite Bryant;  a brother, Carl Brooks, and three grandchdilren, Joseph M. Brooks, Lisa M. Brooks, and Justin T. Brooks.
