Hazel C. Simms

Mrs. Simms was born August 21, 1915 in Swain County, NC, and was a daughter of the late J. Albert and Sanna Garland Crisp.  She was married to the late Russell E. Simms, with whom she owned the Mountaineer Buffet Restaurant in Maggie Valley.  She also lived in Tampa, FL, where she was a volunteer with the Red Cross and the Cancer Society.

After moving to the Asheville area, she volunteered with the First Lady's Prayer Breakfasts and was also involved with the Foster Grandparent Program.

She is survived by three grandsons and their wives, David and Pamela Ballard, Terry and Kathy Ballard, and James and Sherry Ballard, as well as a great-granddaughter, Amanda Samuels.
