Helen Mae Shuffler

Asheville - Helen Mae Shuffler, 77, of 599 North Louisiana Avenue, died Thursday, January 6, 2000 in a local hospital. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Maggie Jones Searcey and wife of the late Horace Shuffler, who died in 1961. She was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church and retired from Taylor Instrument in 1980. She is survived by four daughters, Sarah Webb and her husband Ralph of Fayetteville, Joyce Bishop and her husband Perry of Hendersonville, Frances Webb of Hendersonville, Linda Dunn and her husband Michael of Asheville; three sons, Horace Shuffler, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Candler, Jerry Shuffler of Leicester, Frank Shuffler and his wife Mary of Candler; three sisters, Margaret Craig of Fairview, Lucille Griffin of Skyland, Betty Harris of Arden; a brother, Earl Searcey of Asheville; 26 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Johnny Cook. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road and also in the fellowship hall of Boiling Springs Baptist Church on Fanning Bridge Road immediately following the service.
