Helen Marie Shoffner Roberts, 83, of English Dr., Candler, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Golden Living Health Care Center. A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Roberts was a daughter of the late Carl and Kathryn Courtney Shoffner. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Clay Roberts; son, Ronald Henry Roberts; sisters, Nancy Allen and Dorothy Dalton; and brother, Bill Shoffner. Mrs. Roberts was a lifelong member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Church and husband Robert; son, Richard Roberts and wife Jackie; sisters, Margaret Ann �Peggy� Young, and Catherine Vera Henderson and husband Jerry; granddaughters, Amanda, Amber, and Ashley Roberts; great-granddaughter, Piper Sutton; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with Fr. C. Morris Boyd officiating. Her family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Her family extends appreciation to the staff of Golden Living Health Care Center, and to the nurses, CNAs and staff of Memorial Campus� 5th floor for the compassion and love they provided to Helen during her stays with them. Memorials may be made to the Altar Society of the Basilica at St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood St., Asheville, NC 28801.
