Helen Rickman Tweed, 96, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 22, 2021, at the Brian Center, Weaverville, NC.

A native of Transylvania Co., Helen was a daughter of the late Andrew Cornelius and Flora Pearl Powell Rickman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence V. Tweed, whom she married on August 11, 1945; brothers, Claude, Syd, Harold, Carroll and Charles Rickman; and sister, Edna Lyle.

Mrs. Tweed graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School, Class of ’43. She attended church at Lakeview Wesleyan Church, Marion, IN, and West Asheville Wesleyan Church.

She retired from Radio Corporation of America (RCA) on August 29, 1979, after 26 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts, quilting, needlepoint and coloring. She also loved to watch birds and read bird books. Her lifetime passion was genealogy research and the most precious gift to her family was the extensive research of the Rickman Family, tracing ancestors back to the American Revolution.

For those who wish to pay their respects, Mrs. Tweed will lie in repose at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. beginning Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. until Friday at 1:00 p.m., at which time her family will gather to informally greet friends before traveling to the cemetery. Guestbook

  1. Dear Aunt Helen was such a bright and steady light, a selfless daughter and devoted sister. She loved her many nieces and nephews and welcomed new lives into the family. Upon the untimely and sudden death of her brother Harold in late 1982, the extended family gathered to support “Mamaw” Pearl and one another. At the time, nephew Michael Rickman and I were married and the proud parents of very new infant daughter Mary Faye. I’ll never forget the joy that Mary Faye brought to the sad, stunned household or the contented hospitality Helen lent to the gathering through her own sorrow What a gift she crafted for the next generations, with her genealogy adventures! Aunt Helen, rest now with your well-earned crown of gold stars.

  2. May God keep you all in his hands. Comforting you in this lose. Helen is now with our Lord and Savior in Heaven. Praise God for this.
    Praying for you all.
