HELEN "SISSY" BLANKENSHIP AYERS ASHEVILLE – Helen Blankenship Ayers, 73, of Asheville, died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late William Clayton Blankenship and Marion McCurry Blankenship. She was also preceded in death by brothers Gary Blankenship, Charles "Buddy" Blankenship, and George William Blankenship. Mrs. Ayers was a retired LPN after 40 years of service. She is survived by a daughter, Chantay Ayers of Asheville; sons Donavan Ayers and wife Kim of Enka, and Kenneth "Spud" Ayers, Jr., and wife Debbie of Pisgah Forest; grandchildren Morgan Wayne Ayers, Marshall Wayne Ayers, and Katie Angela Ayers; brother Fred Blankenship; sisters Doris Burbage, Patty Harris, and Donna Smith; and beloved pet, kitty cat Colie. At Helen's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 16-A Brozzini Court, Greenville, SC 29615, and/or to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, PO Box 8195, Asheville, NC 28814.

  4. My wife and I met your mom at St. Joe’s in the early 90’s. I was seriously ill at that time. Your mom was truly a gift from God to both of us.I would go visit her from time to time for several years after my recovery. Your mother was truly an ‘Angel of Mercy.’ Know that she left her mark on a couple from Franklin and countless others.We are sorry for your loss. Please take comfort in knowing that each time we talk about Sissy we smile and remember her fondly. May God bless your entire family.
