Henrietta escaped her physical bonds to become one with the universe on December 22nd 2024, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well lived. Her journey among the stars mirrors the boundless curiosity and passion she carried throughout her remarkable life.
A true lover of nature, she found solace and inspiration in the great outdoors. She was an avid birder and loved to witness the songs and flights of her feathered companions. Her dedication to the environment extended to hands-on conservation work, removing invasive plants at the North Carolina Arboretum to preserve the native beauty of the land she cherished.
Deeply proud of her Scotch-Irish heritage, she delved into its history and culture with scholarly enthusiasm. This passion for understanding and connection was a thread that ran through every aspect of her life.
For over 40 years, she built a distinguished career as a professional financial advisor. A pioneer in her field, she shattered glass ceilings and paved the way for women in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Her dedication to her clients and her ethical approach to her work earned her widespread respect and admiration.
Civic engagement was a cornerstone of her life. As a political organizer for the Democratic Party, she worked tirelessly to champion progressive causes and empower her community. Her commitment to democracy was further exemplified by her years of service as an election volunteer, ensuring that every voice was heard and every vote counted.
Her love for science and the cosmos was boundless. She often marveled at the night sky, finding joy and perspective in the vastness of the universe. This passion for astronomy was a natural extension of her lifelong curiosity and love for learning.
She was a devoted member of Skyland United Methodist Church, where she found community and solace. Her commitment to the church reflected her belief in the values of kindness, compassion, and service, which she carried with her throughout her life.
Her legacy is one of resilience, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the power of community and knowledge. She leaves behind a world profoundly touched by her efforts and a family inspired by her example. Her spirit will live on in the birdsong, the stars above, and the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Ronnie Caldwell, whose unwavering love and dedication supported her through many years of her difficult journey with Alzheimer’s. She also leaves behind her beloved son, Bryan Dillingham; her cherished grandson, Evan Dillingham; and her daughter-in-law, Lana Al-Adwan. She also leaves behind adopted family members Susanne Brunton and Beka Hedly, who provided her with love, entertainment, care, and dignity through her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the North Carolina Arboretum or a conservation organization of your choice. May her light continue to shine as brightly as the stars she so loved.
A Celebration of her Life will be held starting at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 30 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden. Her family will greet friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
