Henry Alan Davis, 90, of Hendersonville, NC, died on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at The Laurels of Hendersonville.

A Candler native, Henry was a descendant of Uriah and Rebecca Davis, 1790s settlers of the now historic Pisgah View Ranch. Henry was the son of the late Tennyson and Delores Davis. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Evelyn Davis, Benjamin P. Davis and wife Josephine, Howard T. Davis and wife Faith, and Gene T. Davis.

Henry will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Shirley Davis; nieces, Laurie Davis Henson and husband Russ, of Hendersonville, Sabrina Davis Atkins and husband Brent, of Roanoke, VA, Beth Davis, of California; and nephews, Andrew Davis, of Candler, Tom Davis and wife Cindi, of Charlotte, NC, and Greg Davis, of Roanoke.

Mr. Davis comes from a family of proud American patriots with ancestors having served during the American Revolution and the Civil War, and the family members having served during WWI, WWII and peacetime following The Korean Conflict. Henry served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was deployed to the 19th Infantry REG and the 1st Missle Command.

Following his discharge from the Army, Mr. Davis returned to his career with the NWRC (National Weather Records Center), in Asheville, and in 1970 was transferred to NOAH, in Washington, D.C., until 1986.

The graveside service for Henry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery, Candler. The Rev. Zak Keuthan, Henry’s neighbor and friend, will officiate.

His family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. for 30 minutes prior to the service in the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Piney Mountain United Methodist Church, 36 Piney Mountain Rd., Candler, NC 28715.

  2. My mother Shirley Davis was especially fond of Henry. They sent Christmas cards every year to each other for decades. Mom was saddened to hear of his passing as was I and my brother Greg. Henry lived a long full life and was loved by his family and friends. Forever in our hearts.
