Henry Allen Waldrop, Jr. 82, formerly of 23 Boyds Chapel Road, Weaverville, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002 in a local health care facility.
Mr. Waldrop was born March 10, 1920 in Madison County and was the son of the late Henry Allen Waldrop, Sr. and Pearl Self Waldrop and was also preceded in death by his wife Mildred Hudson Waldrop, who died in 1995 and a nephew, Danny Buckner who died in 1989. A US Army veteran serving in WW II, he was employed by Cheney Bigelow Inc. as shipping clerk and was a member, deacon and superintendent of Boyds Union Chapel Church.
He is survived by a sister, Melba Buckner of Weaverville; a sister-in-law and husband Elizabeth and Thomas Radford of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Howard Hudson of Atlanta, and Joe Hudson and wife Carolyn of Asheville; nephew, David Buckner and wife Diana of Canton.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Revs. Bruce Lax and Al Harrell officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home and request memorials be made to Boyds Union Chapel Church 40 Boyds Chapel Rd. Weaverville, NC 28787.
I worked with Henry at Cheney Bigelow. He was a gentle man who lived his Christianity daily.
