Henry Ausbon Jenkins, 87, of Fletcher, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Flesher’s Fairview Rest Home.

Born in and a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the husband of Joyce Jenkins of Fletcher, and the son of the late Paul James and Pearl Eudoria (Dockery) Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara “Polly” Surrett.

A tool and die maker by trade, he was employed by Farnam Manufacturing, Alliance Carolina, and A&M Tool. After his retirement, he and a friend enjoyed putting vinyl siding on and new windows in houses.

In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by a daughter, Cathy Merrill (Tim) of Fletcher; a son, David Jenkins (Tracey) of Springfield, TN; four grandchildren: Brandon Merrill (Adrienne) and Holly Drake (Nathaniel), all of Fletcher and Lesley Colvin (Nathan) of Georgetown, IL and Ashley Jenkins of Springfield, TN; six great-grandchildren: Emily, Kylie, and Ryan Drake, Ruby Sircy, and Gage and Evie Colvin; five sisters: Nancy Woods (Bill), Jan Seiler (Larry), Mary Austin, Linda Jenkins, and Sharon Tyndall (Richard); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 22, 2023 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Revs. Jonathan Stewart and Nathaniel Drake officiating. Burial will follow in Tweed’s Chapel Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 PM.

The family would like to thank the staff of Flesher’s of Fairview Rest Home for the kind and loving care they gave him.

  1. To Joyce and all the family, we extend our deepest sympathy and our prayers for all of you during this time. It is with great fondness and respect that I remember Henry. He was a man that invested much in my life and I know that He will be missed, but I am thankful for the hope that we have to see him again in Heaven. May the God of all grace give you comfort and peace.
