Henry Irven Suthard, 79, of Piney View Estates, Marshall, died on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Mission Hospitals.
A native of Newport News, VA, Mr. Suthard was a son of the late John Marvin, Sr., and Esther Rose Suthard. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Donald J., and David J. Suthard; sister, Alice Allman; and brothers, John and Charles Suthard.
Henry raised rabbits on a large scale. He showed them and used them for meat. He served as president of the Western North Carolina Rabbit Breeders Association. He also raised show birds. Mr. Suthard was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.
He is survived by his wife, Burch Victoria Lowe Suthard; daughter, Patricia Ann Semple, of Canonsburg, PA; son, MSgt. Jonathan Ray Suthard, of Papillion, NE; step-daughter, Katie Jane Cutshall, of Weaverville; sisters, Martha Sim, of Jacksonville, FL, Catherine Suthard, of Jefferson, IN, Sharon Crammer, of Arizona, Hazel Printz, of DuPont, WA, Vivian Granger, of Huntersville, and Evelyn Hollor, of Indiana; brothers, Mitchell Suthard, of Kings Island, TX, and Gene Suthard, of Knoxville, TN; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mr. Suthard will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. Johnny Tiller and Angela Plum officiating. Interment will follow at noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, in Black Mountain, with the Buncombe Co. Veterans Council performing military rites. Serving as pallbearers will be friends, family, and Deacons from Sunrise Baptist Church.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
We hope you find peace and not in any more pain. We will see you again one day. We remember the times when we were little and would go visit you and mamaw and we got to play with the birds and the rabbits.
