Herbert Rash, 78, of 11 Autumn Rush Lane, Asheville, died Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the VA Medical Center. Mr. Rash was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Clinton and Amy Brown Rash. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Rash, a grandson, Jonathan Lankton, and brothers, Buford Rash and Charles Arnold Rash. He was a US Navy veteran and worked as a computer operator at the National Climatic Data Center for 33 years. He was a member of Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Peggy Bailey Rash; two daughters, Pamela R. Lankton and her husband, Bruce, of Old Fort, and Vickie R. Robinson of Asheville; two grandchildren, Andrea Hamilton and her husband, Greg, of Marion and Valicia Robinson of Asheville; one great-grandchild, Skyler Robinson; and four sisters, Edith Greene of Alexander, Thelma Vaughn of Weaverville, Eleanor Swilling of Snellsville, GA, and Dorothy Evans of Loganville, GA. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Fox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, Keever Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
