Hilda Brooks Godfrey Jenkins, 85, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011, at Aston Park Health Care Center after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Lyda and Myrtle Brooks. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Rex H. Godfrey, who died in 1978; brothers Ray Brooks and Ralph Brooks; sister Martha Erleen English; and niece Vickie Brooks. Hilda was a graduate of Emma High School. She was employed by Asheville Hosiery Mill and American Enka and as a Senior companion for Mountain Geri Care. She was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Godfrey Treadway and husband Dennis of Candler; granddaughter Amy Treadway Raymond and husband Langdon of Fletcher; sister Dorthy Land and husband Grady; brother Don Brooks and wife Carolyn; and husband Robert W. Jenkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
