Terry & Jim,
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad, he was truly a wonderful man and he will be missed by all who knew him. I have fond memories of him from our childhood, especially when he wanted his boys to come home for dinner…his whistle could be heard for miles! May God comfort you both and give you strength in this time of great sorrow.
Jerry & Carol
SUCH A GREAT MAN! HE SERVED HIS COUNTRY AND HIS GOD WITH GREAT HONOR. I WILL MISS HIS FRIENDSHIP, HIS GREAT PERSONALITY AND THE INTEGRETY HE DISPLAYED.
Terry (and Jimmy),
Jerry called me to let me know of your loss. I very much wish I could have come to Asheville to pay my respects. I remember your Dad very well and very fondly. He was always very kind and friendly to me (even when he might be forgiven for getting a restraining order). There was waterskiing and boating at Fontana and James, whistling to get Terry to come home (usually so he would not get into more trouble with me), coming home from work to find all his tools scattered around the yard while Terry took his car (or mine) apart. (‘Terry for the Love of Pete, If I told you once….’.) Mr. Penland lived a full and active life; He was a morally upright, ethical man, a patriot, a good neighbor, a good citizen. I will never drive by the boulder in the yard at 58 Trotter Pl without having fond memories. At this time, I also remember your wonderful Mother. She wasy truly a patient, loving person to put up with some of your rascal friends.
May this be a time of quiet, satisfying reflection about your Dad.
Your old neighborhood pal,
John
