Homer Davis Clark, 86, of 225 Pisgah Highway, Candler, died Tuesday, October 31, 2000.

Mr. Clark was born in Haywood County and was the fourth of nine children of the late Silas and Leona Justice Clark.

He served in the US Army during WW II where he participated in the Normandy Invasion. He stayed with his unit all the way to the Elb River and the end of the war at Magnaburg, Germany. He spent three years in the European Theater and was a recipient of a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters as well as a Bronze Star.

After the War he returned to his beloved mountains and the job he had begun with American Enka prior to his military service. He retired in 1976 from the Rayon Chemical Department of American Enka after 41 years service. He was an avid gardner who maintained a beautiful apple orchard and vineyard and was also an accomplished handyman. He was a member of Hominy Baptist Church.

He is urvived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Warren Clark; five devoted children, Linda Manis and her husband David and Janice Singleton and her husband Kenneth of Candler, Bill N. Clark and his wife Bea of Mars Hill, Jerry D. Clark of Houston, TX, and J. Les Clark and his wife Sandy of Candler; one sister, Lillian C. Dills of Brevard, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Friday, November 3, 2000 in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton and the Rev. Robert Jackson officiating. Military honors will be provided by a detachment from Fort Bragg together with the Enka High School Air Force JROTC Unit at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be nephews, including Johnny Dills, Gene, Ed, Ray, Steve, Earl, and Neil Clark, David Sanford and Rick Trantham.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hominy Baptist Church Building Fund.
