Howard Edwin Trexler, 66, left this earth to join Our Lord on February 24, 2004, after battling an extended illness. He passed away, surrounded by family and friends, at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was born August 31, 1937, to Harold E. and Nyles H. Trexler. He was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and was an Army veteran. He attended West Asheville Baptist Church and worked for many years at, and retired from, Gerber Products. Surviving are his wife, Bessie Burrell Trexler; two sons, Charles Howard Trexler and David Dewayne Trexler, along with their mother, Carolyn Patton Trexler; his father, Harold Edwin Trexler; his sister, Wanda Trexler Brookshire; one niece, Brenda Fryar and her husband Michael Fryar; two grandchildren, Chloe Trexler and Katie Trexler; two step-children, Renee Moseley and Leslie Hensley; five step-grandchildren, Brittnee Moseley, Beth Moseley, Hunter Moseley, Hailey Moseley, and Joey Moseley; two great-nieces, Melissa Fryar and Christy Fryar, and one great-great-nephew, Ian Fryar. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nyles Holder Trexler and his infant daughter, Katherine Jean Trexler. He is deeply loved and will be sincerely missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Garland Vance officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Asheville High School Marine Corps JROTC at Green Hills Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at other times will be at the home, 37 Springside Drive, Asheville.

  5. Dear family, I haven’t scene any of you in ages and wanted you to know how sorry I’am to hear of Howard’s death. He was very good to me during my marriage to Chuck and I know you will miss him dearly. I was gonna come to family night but today is the funeral.   8. The loss of a family member, a neighbor or a friend always leaves a void that is difficult to fill, but the promise was made over 2000 years ago. Jesus has a place prepared for Howard, and Howard will be there with Him.
    Wonder not, my friends. The LEHS Class of ’56 will meet Howard on the other side when our homes are ready for us to cross over. Howard is not lost – He has just gone ahead. We who are still on earth will remember him always. Agape.
