Howard Nathan Fite, 79, of 68 Church Road, Fairview, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at the VA Medical Center.
Mr. Fite was born April 23, 1925, to the late George and Linda Lankford Fite. He was also preceded in death by sisters Minnie F. Cole and Ruth F. Lanning Clay and brothers R. Harvey, George W., Sam, John and James Fite.
He served in New Guinea with the US Navy during WW II and retired after 34 years with Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Lillie Early Fite; three daughters, Patricia Sellers and her husband Paul of Fairview, Kathryn Boone and her husband Mack of Mars Hill and Sharon Nesbitt and her husband Dean of New Kent, VA; one son, Howard Eugene Fite and his wife Pam of Fairview; eleven grandchildren, Darrell, Douglas and Nicholas Sellers, Mary Ann Parham, Heather Wilson, Curtis, Tony and Haley Fite, Amber Boone, and Stephen and Nathan Nesbitt; and four great-grandchildren, Chessnee Sellers, Michelle and Susan Wilson and Conner Parham.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Cane Creek Cemetery with the Revs. Todd Royal and Chester Owenby officiating.
His family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and suggest that memorials be made to Fairview Baptist Church or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the VA Medical Center for the care given to Mr. Fite over the past 10 years.

Remember me from the Resturant there in Fairview.I moved to Ga. when My husband died.
I know how it hurts to loose your husband.My prayers are with you and the family.
It doesn’t seem so many years have passed.This will make a big change in your life but God will see you through.He will take away the bitter hurt.I know for he has done it for me.
