Hoyt Glen Montgomery, 66, of 46 Hendrix Drive, Candler, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at his home. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of Lottie Roberts Montgomery and the late Poley Alan Montgomery and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Montgomery, who died in 1985. He was retired from BASF after 40 years of service as an engineer and was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Montgomery coached boy's baseball and girl's softball for Hominy Valley Recreational Leagues. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Coffey Montgomery; a daughter, Suzanne Montgomery of Candler; a son, Wayne Montgomery of Morrisville; a sister, Lorraine M. Lagrange of Florence, SC and a brother, Edgar A. Montgomery of Laredo, TX. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend John T. Tiller officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Gideons Bible International, P.O. Box 1007, Asheville, NC 28802.

    With great pride, over the years, Wayne spoke highly of his dad’s words of wisdom and his enjoyment of life. His gentle soul touched many hearts. While he will be missed by so many here on earth, I am sure he was welcomed with open arms in heaven.

  2. It has been many years since I have seen Mr. Montgomery. The last time in fact I suppose was on the fields of Hominy Valley where he was a little leauge coach of mine. Depp regrets and sorrow go out to the family of Coach Montgomery.

    I am so very sorry to hear that Hoyt has left this life. He was a very dear friend to me and many others who worked with him daily for years. He truly leaves good memories because he was truly a good person. His spirit will remain with us as he abides in the arms of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.

    YOU DO NOT NO ME BUT AS A YOUNG MAN I WORKED WITH HOYT WHEN I WAS CO-OPING AT ENKA AND GOING TO WCU. A GREAT MENTOR AND FRIEND WHILE WORKING THERE. I REMEMBER MANY DEER STORIES TOLD AS HE AND JIM WESTALL WOULD GO HUNTING ALOT TOGETHER. FROM READING THE OTHER THOUGHTS OF MANY HOYT DIDNT CHANGE. HE WAS A GREAT MAN.
