Hugh B. Mathus, 78, of Asheville, was carried home by the angels on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.
A native of Madison Co., he was the son of the late Sallie Worley Mathus and Jack Mathis. He was preceded in death by his son, David Mathus, and brother, Loyd Mathis.
Mr. Mathus is survived by his wife, Patsy Austin Behm Mathus; daughter, Terry Mathus Haynes; and stepsons, Bobby and Kenny Behm; two sisters, Carrie Morgan and Agnes Gardin; two brothers, Ted and James Mathis; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mr. Mathus will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. with the Revs. Phillip Hurst and Jim Odum officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Asheville Fire Department, Station #6, P.O. Box 7148, Asheville, NC 28802.
Sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed. Now he’s making music with the Angels in Heaven.
