Hugh N. Lauffer

Hugh N. Lauffer, 65, of Fletcher, NC, died Friday, January 29, 1999, in an Asheville hospital.

Mr. Lauffer was born in Warren, PA, and was a son of the late Ned Bennett and Vera Canfield Lauffer.  He was an Air Force veteran and was a retired design engineer with Smoky Mountain Machine.  He had lived in Buncombe County since 1986.  He was on the Board of Directors of the WNC Rescue Mission and was a member of Grace Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Motley Lauffer;   two daughters, Sharon Smolick of Reading, PA, and Teresa Lauffer Cha'con of Redwood Shores, CA;  three sons,  Eric Lauffer of ASheville, Kurtis Lauffer of Scottsdale, AZ, and Karl Lauffer of Highlands Ranch, CO;  and a grandson, Mitchell Lauffer.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, February 1, 1999, in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, with the Rev. Dave Desforge officiating.  Funeral services for the public will conclude in the chapel with private interment to follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to the WNC Rescue Mission, PO Box 909, Asheville, NC 28802.
