Ida Gwendolyn Mixson Quackenbush entered her eternal rest on August 1, 2024. Gwen was born May 15, 1934 in Sheldon, SC to Hugh and Gertrude Mixson. She is survived by her brother B. H. Mixson of Sheldon. She’s also survived by one son, Howie (Kathy) of Moore, SC and one daughter Terry (A. J.) of Asheville, NC, 2 grandchildren Chris Burke (Courtney) of Raleigh, NC and Lauren Burke (Jack) of Angier, NC and one great grandchild Graham Burke.
Gwen graduated from the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Columbia, SC. She retired from National Healthcare in Sumter, SC where she was a registered nurse. She was a gifted caregiver. She not only cared for her patients, she took care of many neighbors and friends in the community.
Gwen loved fishing, cooking, gardening and yard work. She was also a “Mrs. Fixit”. She also had a green thumb.
She also loved her family and gave selflessly to them.
A graveside service will be held Saturday August 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sandhills Baptist Church Cemetery in Cummins, SC.
