Irene Gasperson Coy Arden – Irene Martha Gasperson Coy, 92, of the Avery's Creek Community, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Aston Park Healthcare Center. A native and life-long resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Mans and Martha Wood Gasperson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Thornton Coy, who died in 1994 as well as five brothers and five sisters. Irene is survived by two daughters, Patricia Pippin of Arden and Glenda Haley and her husband, Ray, of Asheville; one son, Gaylord "Ed" Coy of Arden, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Avery's Creek Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bob Fox officiating. The family will receive friends at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that you please consider a contribution in Irene's memory to the Aston Park Healthcare Employees Appreciation Fund, 380 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

  6. My condolences to the family. Irene was such a wonderful lady. I have such happy memories of playing in the creek in the front of her house with Greg and Donnie. Irene would always give us snacks and take time to talk to us. I always loved when she came to TN to visit and she was great to my son, Brandon. I like to think of them both in heaven, waiting on the rest of us to join them.
