Iris Lanette Pressley

iris pressley
Asheville – Iris Lanette Garland Pressley, 60, of Asheville, completed her journey and went with the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2008. Iris was the daughter of the late Grady and Addiebell Garland and also was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Pamela Garland. She leaves behind a grieving family; son, Michael Pressley, of Asheville; two daughters, Tammy McIntosh and Lisa Pressley, both of Asheville; three grandsons, Corey, Tyler and River; three granddaughters, Julia, Lindsey, and Micháela; one brother, Grady Garland, of Hendersonville and two sisters, Vickie King, of Ringgold, GA and Kay Jackson, of Edneyville. Her church home was Skyland First Baptist Church, where she took special delight in serving in CARE Ministry. It gave Iris great joy to honor others through this loving outreach program. It was Iris' wish to remain at home, where her sisters and children were honored to take care of her in her final days. She was blessed to pass quietly in the peace of her home, surrounded by her family. This would not have been possible without the assistance of CarePartners Hospice and their caring, supportive team of nurses. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Skyland First Baptist Church with the Reverends David Honeycutt and Ronald McMahan officiating. Interment will follow at Patty's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Wednesday at the church. Iris would like to thank all those who walked on this journey with her. Their prayers and cards were a source of comfort that carried her through. Her strength and courage were an inspiration to us all.

  17. Dearest Lisa and Family,

I can’t begin to express how precious your Mother was to me. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. It always amazed me how Iris would be so ready and willing to write letters of encouragement to others during our CARE Ministry while her health was rapidly declining. Iris is my hero, we have all learned a great deal from
her. Especially to trust in God always and continue to do his work until the very end. Her wonderful legacy will truly live on through her family and friends who loved and admired her courage and strength.

    Love to all,

    Lynn Brooks

  18. Tammy, Mike & Lisa,
I am so sorry Aunt Iris has passed on ! I know she is with Nanny and Aunt Mae and together they watch over us, just as they did when we played in the circle on the swing or made mudd pies or played ball or rode our bikes. I can not even begin to imagine what you are going through but even though I am no longer living there, in my heart I am still there. I am only an email, text or phone call away !!!
My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Miss you so much !
    All my love,
    Kimberly

Please remember that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I am sorry that Idid not make it home in time for the funeral, we are on vacation, and could not get home on time, and we are still on vacation. Love and prayers, Wilma Wilkie, my mother, Alta Lewis also feels the same way, she did call me and tell me that Iris had passed away. If ever we can do anything for you, please let us know.

  22. I’m very sorry Michael, Tammy, and Lisa. If you ever need me just call. I have so many fond memories of Aunt Iris especially around christmas time we would always go over and see her and spend time with her. Even when it wasn’t christmas and I would stop by and see her she was always so happy to see me. she would just glow. she always called me her girl. She never forgot my birthday she would always send me birthday cards. I will miss you so much Aunt Iris, but I know you are in a better place with Jesus. I love you Aunt Iris. I love you all!!

  23. Tammy
My deepest condolences to you and your family. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

    Michelle

  24. Iris was an inspiration to all of us who get so bogged down in the busy-ness of life that we often miss the point of living. We didn’t know her very long but she was truly a blessing. Her bravery and strength were truly gifts from God. May He bless you with His peace that passes all our limited human understanding in your time of loss. Our prayers are with you all.
