Arden - Ivan Dale Steiner, 84, of Muirfield Drive, died Saturday, December 1, 2001.

A native of Bellaire, Michigan, he was the son of the late William and Maude Lingle Steiner. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan. Mr. Steiner was a professor of Social Psychology for 18 years at the University of Illinois and retired in 1985 as Professor Emeritus from the University of Massachusetts after 15 years service. He served for four years as editor of the “Journal of Personality and Social Psych” and was designated as The Society of Experimental Social Psychology’s “Distinguished Senior Scientist” in 1982. He has over 50 publications to his credit, including two books.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Hubley Steiner; two daughters, Dianne M. Myers of Whitelake, Mich., Karen E. Steiner of Urbana, Ill.; a son, William E. Steiner of Carmel, Ind.; a step-daughter, Janet Asikainen, and her husband Alan, of Glastonbury, Conn.; two sisters, June Simkins, and her husband Ted, of Grandville, Mich., Jean Schoof of Bellaire, Mich.; two brothers, Glenn Steiner, and his wife Irene, of Gaylord, Mich. Wayne Steiner, and his wife Dolores, of Bellaire, Mich. and six grandchildren.

No local services are planned and a family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn., 3 Louisiana Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of arrangements.
