J. C. Massey

         J.C. Massey, 72, of 21 1/2 Bevlyn Drive, Oak Forest, Asheville, died Tuesday,
October 27, 1998.

     Mr. Massey was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Rev. O. C. and
Lovada Buckner Massey.    He was also preceded in death by a son, Gene Massey, in
1981.  He was retired after 35 years as a driver with Associated Transport.

     He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mildred McElrath Massey;  two daughters,
Dianna Braddock of Fletcher and Cathy Trimnal of Arden;  a son, Jerry Massey of
Fletcher;  five sisters, Elsie Davis of Alexander, Lucy Rice and Marie Rice of Weaverville,
and Roxie Lister and Judy Mathis of Asheville;  three brothers, Ott, Spence, and George
Massey of Weaverville;  seven grandchildren, Michelle Maynor, Tracey Millar, Ron
Youngblood, Jr., Stephanie Massey, Ashley Trimnal, Brad Massey, and Jennifer Massey;
and four great-grandchildren, T.J. Maynor, Stacy Maynor, Kaylee Millar, and Angela
James.

     Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home chapel with the Rev.
Greg Corn officiating.  Burial will be at Shepherd Memorial Park.

     His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home and
request that memorials be made to the Scholarship Fund of Skyland Baptist Church, PO
Box 278, Skyland, NC  28776.
