Asheville - J. L. Pressley, 73, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000 in a local hospice center after a long battle with kidney disease.

A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Fate and Edna Ballard Presley. Mr. Pressley was a member of Spring Mountain Baptist Church and was a member of the Beacon Quarter Century Club, retiring from Beacon Manufacturing in 1992 with 46 years of service.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lane J. and Angela Sircey Pressley of Fairview; three sisters, Arsula Penland of Skyland, Barbara Elkins of Fairview and Ruby Watkins of Swannanoa; four brothers, Leroy Presley of Skyland, Merrimon Pressley of Fairview, Robert Pressley of Asheville and Jim Presley of Fairview. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilburn Presley.

Services will be held at 11 am Saturday in the Spring Mountain Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bobby H. Gibson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian where Mr. Pressley will remain until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the Pressley home place, 34 Pressley Place, Fairview.
