Jack Ernest Young, 69, of 31 Valley View Drive, Candler, died Friday, December 21, 2001, at the Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Young was born in Buncombe County and was a son of Geneva Hibberts Young of Candler and the late Fred F. Young. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a former employee of American Enka. He retired in 1991 from Fluor- Daniel Construction Co where he worked as a millwright. He was a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church and the VFW Post in Candler. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary JoAnn Scruggs Young; one daughter, Michele Young of Candler; two sons, Phillip Young and Frederick Young of Candler; four sisters, Lucille Stanberry and Phyllis Young of Candler and Betty Cordell and Joan Young of Asheville; and two brothers, William L. Young and Paul Edwin Young of Candler. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Steve Fox and David Scruggs officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 Sunday at the funeral home.

    I used to work with Jack many years ago at the
    Enka plant. He was a good friend. I wanted to
    come by the funeral home, but I am unable to
    drive after dark. My thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of loss..

  3. We are very sorry to hear about the death of Jack. He was so good to his mother. We could always count on him to bring Geneva to the reunion. He was lots of fun and all around a great guy.

  4. jack was a good freind got to know him about 20 years ago when i worked at ice service store he will be missed
