Jack Holton Benbow

Jack Holton Benbow, 82, of Givens Estates, died Monday, May 8, 2000 in a local hospital.

He was a native of Guilford County and was the son of the late Harry Winchester Benbow and Lillie Holton Benbow.

He retired in 1983 from the Whiteville Apparel Manufacturing Company and was past president of the Whiteville Civitan Club. He was a graduate of Summerfield High School and attended Oak Ridge Military Institute for two years. He was a 1st LT. in the US Army, serving in the Infantry during World War II.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor Griffith Benbow; three sons, David Clifton Benbow and his wife, Phyllis of Asheville, Joseph J. Benbow of Wrightsville Beach, and Kenneth M. Benbow of Oakboro; two sisters, Jean B. Walker of Fletcher and Margaret Tyler of Winston-Salem; one brother, William E. Benbow of Long Pond, Penn.; five grandchildren, Heather Efird of Charlotte, Sumer and Courtney Benbow, both of Albemarle, Shaun Benbow of Morganton and Lindsay Benbow of Asheville and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 11th, at Biltmore United Methodist Church of which he was a member, with the Reverend Ashley Stanley and Reverend Oscar Dowdle officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
