Jack McCarson, Sr., 79, of 63 Sams Branch Road, Candler, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at his home.
Mr. McCarson was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late James A. and Florence Pressley McCarson. He served in the infantry with the US Army and was a lifelong member of the DAV. He worked as a supervisor at Steelcase for 15 years and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and the Junior Mechanic Order of Childrens Home.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Davis McCarson; three daughters, Rhonda McCarson and Nadine McCarson of Candler and Karen Rathbone of Maggie Valley; two sons, James D. McCarson and Jack McCarson, Jr. of Candler; three sisters, Alice Rogers of Greeley, CO, Orva Lee Warren of Balsam Grove, and Jeanette Rogers of the Outer Banks; two brothers, Joe McCarson and David McCarson of Candler; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 pm Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors being provided by the Asheville High School Marine JROTC Unit.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 9 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25339, Asheville, NC 28813.
