October 13, 1952 ~ March 12, 2023

Born in: Henderson County, North Carolina
Resided in: Fletcher, North Carolina

Jack M. Bonner, 70, of Fletcher, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 in the arms of his loving wife Kay Fairchild Bonner.

Jack was born in Hendersonville on October 13, 1952 to the late Dan Jackson Bonner and Florence Hill Bonner. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Don Bonner, and his half-brother, Ronnie “Bud” Edney.

He was a 1970 graduate of West Henderson High School and was in the first graduating class of Blue Ridge Tech (now Blue Ridge Community College) in 1972.

Jack became interested in cars as a young boy and remembered sitting on the front porch watching cars go by until he knew every make and model. He enjoyed his career as an independent auto dealer with his business, Bonner Motors. He bought only immaculate, low-mileage vehicles and took pride in knowing that when he sold them they were as near to perfect as could be. Jack and Kay enjoyed their time together buying and selling cars, cheering for Duke’s basketball teams (especially when they beat NC), and dressing up to go out to dinner at nice restaurants where they always received compliments on their stylish good-looks.

Jack will forever be loved and missed by his wife of 33 years, Kay. Other survivors include his sister, Susan Bonner Mull and husband Richard; his brother Joe Bonner, all of Morganton, NC; a half-brother, Thomas Edney and wife Pamela of Asheboro, NC; his favorite aunt, Fran McGraw of Mountain Home, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including a very special cousin and friend Linda McCall Wilson and husband Bob of Knoxville, TN; and a favorite niece, Jacklyn Bonner Giron of Barcelona, Spain.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard, Fletcher. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM prior to the service.

Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen St, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

A sincere thanks to Dr. Paul Kim and his staff at Grace Hematology and Oncology in Fletcher for their care and concern.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Guestbook

  1. So sorry to hear about Jack’s passing
We were great friends for many years in the 70s and 80s – we bought the “ judge” GTO from Him in late 70’s and boy do we wished we had a held on to it, it would’ve been worth a fortune now. But we had so much fun with it and with him and with Joe and have so many special memories. We’re so sorry for your loss. Will be praying for you and the family.

  2. Here it’s November and I just saw that Jack had passed. Through the years we bought two older well kept cars (a 1980 Buick and a 1990 Grand Marquis) from Jack and so appreciate his integrity as a small businessman. We honor his memory and the blessing he was to our family. Prayers for you, Kay.
