Jack Olliff Bass, Sr., 95, of Asheville, died Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Givens Estates in Asheville.

Born in Henderson County, he was the husband of the late Jeanette (Garren) Bass and the son of the late Roy Olliff and Vera (Dixon) Bass. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Olliff Bass, Jr.

Jack was a US Navy veteran of WWII.

Jack was a member of Groce United Methodist Church, where he taught and was honored with a plaque for teaching Sunday school for many years. He was an avid vegetable gardener all his life, and while a resident at Givens, he developed a talent for wood carving.

He was a long time member of the former Haw Creek Lions Club.

He is survived by his children: Dennis Bass of Asheville, Donald Bass of Broken Arrow, OK, and Anne Ayers and her husband Tony of Greenville, SC; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances White of Durham, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Groce United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Davis officiating. Friends will be received from 7 PM to 8 PM Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, and again from 12:30 to 1:00 prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Groce UMC online at www.groceumc.org.
